Gem Tiers

Gems come in eight families — Amethyst, Azurite, Emerald, Garnet, Opal, Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz, and Tourmaline — each with tiers 1 through 6. Higher tiers are stronger. You obtain lower tiers first and combine upward.

Combining Steps

Open the Gear Crafting Station. Place lower-tier gems of the same family into the crafting grid to produce the next tier up. Repeat until you reach the tier you need. The station handles both shaped and shapeless recipes, so exact grid layout is flexible for most combines.

Extracting Gems from Gear

Use Currency/Extract Gem on a piece of gear that already has a gem socketed. This pulls the gem back out so you can reuse it on a better item instead of losing it when you replace the gear.

Where to Socket

Socket gems into gear you intend to keep long-term. Because extraction is possible, you can move a high-tier gem from a temporary item to your final piece later. Do not socket tier 6 gems into gear you plan to salvage — extract first, then salvage.

Practical Order

Farm or salvage for low-tier gems, combine up to the tier you want, then socket. If you change builds, extract the gems before swapping gear so nothing is wasted.
