Building Byzantine-Style Structures

Lay the Byzantine Block Palette

Start with the core Byzantine blocks: Byzantine Tiles, Byzantine Tiles Slab, and Byzantine Tiles Stairs for roofs and floors. Add Byzantine Stone Tiles and Byzantine Stone Ornament for walls, and Byzantine Sandstone Tiles and Byzantine Sandstone Ornament for lighter accents. Byzantine Fresco and Byzantine Mosaic (Red) are your decorative panels.

Add Pattern and Detail

Use the pattern blocks to break up flat surfaces:

• Byzantine Dexter Meander Pattern
• Byzantine Sinister Meander Pattern
• Byzantine Eagle Pattern

Set a Meander Pattern as a border band along a wall, and place the Byzantine Eagle Pattern as a central emblem above a doorway. Byzantine Fresco works as a large wall panel, and Byzantine Mosaic (Red) fills floor medallions.

Finish with Carved Sandstone

Carve plain sandstone into Carved Sandstone, Carved Red Sandstone, and Carved Ochre Sandstone. Each has a slab, stairs, and wall variant — Carved Sandstone Slab, Carved Sandstone Stairs, Carved Sandstone Wall, and the Red and Ochre equivalents. Use the carved walls as low parapets and the carved stairs to step rooflines. Combine Byzantine Tiles Stairs with Carved Ochre Sandstone Slab for a two-tone roof edge. Keep a stack of Byzantine Tiles and one carved sandstone color on hand before you build so you can adjust proportions as you go.
