Optimize Performance While Using MCF Shaders
Check Your Current Frame Rate
Before making changes, open the debug screen to see your current FPS. MCF Shaders adds visual processing that impacts performance depending on your hardware. Knowing your baseline helps you measure the effect of optimizations.
Reduce Quality Settings
Access the shader options and look for quality presets or individual toggles. Disable or lower settings like shadow quality, reflection detail, or fog density if you're experiencing frame drops. MCF Shaders typically offers "Low," "Medium," and "High" quality modes—start with a lower preset if performance is poor.
Adjust Render Distance and Chunk Loading
Shaders process more chunks when render distance is high. Reduce your render distance in Video Settings to improve FPS without disabling the shader entirely. This is often the most effective single change for performance.
Monitor Changes
After each adjustment, spend a few minutes exploring different biomes and lighting conditions. Watch your FPS stabilize before making additional changes. This prevents over-optimizing and helps you find the sweet spot between visual quality and smooth gameplay.
