Crafting Katanas and the Master's Katana

Basic Katana

Craft the Katana with a crafting_shaped recipe using iron and a stick. It swings faster than a sword with slightly lower per-hit damage, rewarding aggressive play. The Katana is the base for the Dark Katana and Master's Katana upgrades.

Dark Katana and Master's Katana

Upgrade the Katana into the Dark Katana by adding the appropriate dark material in a crafting_shaped recipe. The Dark Katana leans into burst damage. The Master's Katana is the top of the line and requires the Katana plus rare materials. Both keep the fast swing speed, so stack attack-speed enchants to maximize output.

Combat Tips

Katanas shine when you keep moving. Use the fast swing to land two hits between an enemy's attacks, then step back. Against shielded mobs, circle to their side — the Katana's short reach means you must stay close, so pair it with armor that gives knockback resistance. If you also craft the Nameless Blade or Dancer's Sword, compare their reach and speed; the Katana sits in the middle, making it a reliable all-rounder for cave clearing and night fighting.
