Making the Flatter Hammer and Reinforced Flatter Hammer

The First Flatter Hammer

Flatter Hammer is the tool that converts Pig Iron Chunk into Raw Steel. Without it you cannot start steel production, so build it before anything else. The recipe uses iron-tier components: Iron Plate and Iron Rod, plus a handle material. Gather Iron Ingot, craft Iron Plate and Iron Rod, then assemble the Flatter Hammer at a crafting table.

Once crafted, hold the Flatter Hammer and use it on Pig Iron Chunk. Each use produces Raw Steel, which you then smelt into Steel Ingot.

Upgrading to Reinforced

Reinforced Flatter Hammer is the durable version. It is crafted from Steel Plate, Steel Rod, and Rivet rather than iron parts, so you need a working steel chain first: smelt Raw Steel into Steel Ingot, then craft Steel Plate, Steel Rod, and Rivet.

The Reinforced Flatter Hammer lasts far longer than the iron version. Switch to it as soon as you have the steel components ready, and keep the original Flatter Hammer as a backup or retire it.

Workflow Tip

Process Pig Iron Chunk in batches. Convert a full stack into Raw Steel with the hammer, then smelt the whole batch at once. This keeps your furnace free for other tasks and reduces the number of times you swap tools in and out of your hotbar.
