How to Make Steel in Mapper Base

Steel is the backbone of every tool, weapon and armor piece in this mod, so get a steady supply going before anything else.

From Pig Iron Chunk to Steel Ingot

Start by crafting a Flatter Hammer. Use it to work your way toward Pig Iron Chunk, then process those chunks into Raw Steel. Raw Steel is not yet usable for gear — it has to be smelted. Put Raw Steel in a furnace or blast furnace to get Steel Ingot. The blasting recipe is the fast route, so a blast furnace pays for itself quickly once you are producing in bulk.

Scaling Up

Raw Steel can be stored as a Raw Steel Block, and Steel Ingot can be packed into a Steel Block. Both are useful for compact storage and for recipes that call for blocks rather than ingots. Steel Nugget gives you the small-change unit for fine-grained recipes.

Once you have Steel Ingot flowing, you can branch into Steel Plate, Steel Rod and Rivet — these are the intermediate components most of the advanced recipes expect. Keep a stack of each on hand so you are not stopping to craft them every time you want a new tool.
