Casting Spells: Wands, Glyphs, and the Codex Arcana
Choosing a Casting Tool
Every spell is cast through a wand or staff. Early options include the Amethyst Wand, Chimerite Wand, Aum Wand, Cerublossom Wand, Blue Ice Wand, Angery Skull Wand, and Chimerite Manaweaver's Wand. Staves (Amethyst Staff, Chimerite Staff, Aum Staff, Cerublossom Staff, Blue Ice Staff, Angery Skull Staff) trade speed for power. Craft the one whose materials you can gather first.
Building a Spell with Glyphs
Spells are assembled from glyphs. Start with a Blank Glyph, then produce colored glyphs — Black Glyph, Blue Glyph, Brown Glyph — using the appropriate crafting or runescribing step. Runescribing recipes (mna:runescribing) turn glyph components into usable spell parts. Slot glyphs into your wand's spell configuration through the Codex Arcana interface.
Reading the Codex Arcana
The Codex Arcana is your in-game reference. It lists every glyph, spell shape, and component you have discovered. Spell shapes (mna:shape) determine how a spell behaves — projectile, touch, self, and so on. Components (mna:component) modify damage, duration, and effect. Combine a shape with components and glyphs to define what the spell does.
Practical Casting Tips
Keep Animus Dust and Arcane Ash on hand; many spell and altar recipes consume them. Use an Arcane Sachet or Air Sachet to store reagents. If a spell fails, check that your wand holds enough mana and that every glyph slot is filled. Recharge by waiting near a Brazier or by using manaweaving patterns that restore your pool.
