How to Get Spirits in Malum

Harvest with the Crude Scythe

Craft a Crude Scythe from Runewood Planks and use it as your primary spirit-gathering tool. Swing it at hostile and passive mobs to release spirits. Each kill with the scythe yields spirit essence that is stored automatically.

You can also use the Crude Scythe on grass and foliage. Cutting grass with the scythe occasionally produces Arcane Charcoal Fragments and small amounts of spirit residue alongside the usual drops.

Store and Use Spirits

Spirits accumulate in your inventory as a resource. Open the Encyclopedia Arcana to see which spirit types you currently hold and which recipes they unlock. The Spirit Altar consumes spirits when you perform rituals, so keep a steady supply on hand.

If you need a specific spirit type, target the mobs or blocks associated with that spirit. The scythe is the only tool that harvests spirits, so always carry one when exploring or fighting.

Combine spirit gathering with normal resource collection. While hunting mobs for spirits, you also collect Raw Soulstone, Tainted Rock, and Twisted Rock from the environment, which feed into later crafting steps.
