How to Build a Steep Roof with Steep Base and Steep Top Pieces

Understanding the Steep Pair

A steep roof uses two pieces per slope segment: a Steep Base Roof at the bottom and a Steep Top Roof above it. The base piece is the wider, lower section; the top piece narrows toward the ridge. You need both to complete one vertical run of slope.

Step-by-Step Placement

1. Place your ridge line first using Top Roof pieces.

2. Below the ridge, place Steep Top Roof blocks in a row.

3. Directly beneath those, place Steep Base Roof blocks.

4. Repeat the pair downward until you reach the eave.

5. Cap the bottom edge with a Rain Gutter if you want a finished look.

Choosing a Material

Steep pieces exist for every wood and stone family. For wood, use Acacia Steep Base Roof with Acacia Steep Top Roof, or the planks versions Acacia Planks Steep Base Roof and Acacia Planks Steep Top Roof. For stone, use Andesite Steep Base Roof and Andesite Steep Top Roof, or Blackstone Steep Base Roof and Blackstone Steep Top Roof. Concrete and terracotta variants follow the same pattern, such as Black Concrete Steep Base Roof with Black Concrete Steep Top Roof.

Combining with Lower Pieces

If you want a roof that starts steep and flattens near the eave, stack Steep Base Roof above Lower Base Roof on the same wall. The Lower pieces handle the shallow section and the Steep pieces handle the tall section.
