Troubleshoot Visual Glitches and Artifacts

Common Issues and Fixes

Flickering or Banding in Sky: This often occurs with shadow or reflection settings too high. Lower shadow quality or reflection resolution incrementally until flickering stops.

Water Appearing Black or Distorted: Ensure water reflections are enabled in settings. If the issue persists, reduce reflection quality. Check that you're not viewing water from inside a block.

Shadows Look Harsh or Blocky: Increase shadow softness in the lighting settings. This smooths the transition between lit and shadowed areas.

Performance Drops in Specific Areas: Open areas with lots of sky and water are most demanding. Reduce sun ray intensity and water reflection detail in these zones.

Reset to Defaults

If multiple adjustments cause unexpected behavior, the shader settings menu typically includes a reset option. This restores all values to balanced defaults, giving you a clean starting point to adjust from.

Verify Your Setup

Ensure your graphics driver is current and that other mods don't conflict with shader rendering. Test in a simple creative world before troubleshooting in your main world.
