Set Up the Perfect Brightness Level for Cave Exploration

Finding Your Ideal Setting

Brightness preference is personal. Start by entering a cave system and testing different light levels to see what feels comfortable for exploration without losing the game's atmosphere.

Adjusting During Gameplay

Use the Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys to fine-tune brightness in real-time. Each press adjusts the minimum light level in 0.5 increments. Watch how torches, lanterns, and natural light sources respond as you change the value—you want them to remain visually distinct, not washed out.

Using the Sodium Menu

For more precise control, open your Sodium video settings and locate the Halfbright brightness slider. This lets you set any value between 0.0 and 15.0 without keyboard increments. A setting around 3.0–5.0 works well for most players who want visibility without losing shadow detail.

Testing in Different Environments

Once you've chosen a level, visit a few different locations: deep caves, night-time biomes, and well-lit areas. Make sure light sources like torches still stand out and the overall lighting feels natural rather than flat.
