Prevent Washed-Out Colors While Mining at Night

Understanding the Problem

High gamma settings and brightness boosts can make colors look flat and dull, especially in caves and night environments. Luminous Depth Mod solves this by remapping the lightmap on your CPU, maintaining smooth lighting curves instead of creating harsh brightness jumps.

Avoiding Over-Brightening

Don't set your minimum light level too high. Values above 7.0–8.0 tend to flatten shadows and reduce color depth. Start lower and increase only as much as you need for comfortable visibility. This preserves the natural color palette of stone, ores, and wood.

Combining with Sodium Settings

If you're using Sodium, avoid cranking up the global brightness slider alongside Halfbright. Instead, rely on Halfbright's minimum light level adjustment for better color fidelity. The mod works directly with Sodium's rendering pipeline to keep colors accurate.

Testing Your Setup

Mine near different ore types and light sources. Diamonds, redstone, and lapis should still show their distinctive colors. Torches and lanterns should glow distinctly without creating a yellow haze around them. Adjust downward if colors look washed out.
