Maintain Visible Light Sources While Exploring Dark Areas

Why Light Sources Matter

Torches, lanterns, and other light blocks should remain visually distinct even when you've boosted overall brightness. Luminous Depth Mod preserves this by scaling only the darkest areas, leaving light sources and their illumination intact.

Checking Light Source Visibility

Place torches in a cave and adjust your brightness level. The torches should still appear as bright points of light, and their glow should extend noticeably into surrounding darkness. If torches look dim or blend into the background, your minimum light level is too high.

Balancing Visibility and Contrast

A good rule: you should always be able to spot a torch from several blocks away, even in a well-lit area. If you can't, lower your minimum light level by 0.5–1.0 increments until torches pop visually again.

Testing Different Light Levels

Visit a cave with mixed lighting—some areas lit by torches, others completely dark. Use the Up and Down Arrow keys to cycle through levels and observe when light sources remain prominent. This helps you find the sweet spot where caves are navigable but light blocks still serve their purpose.
