Optimize Performance While Keeping Visual Quality
Identify Performance-Heavy Features
Volumetric clouds and soft shadows are the most demanding visual elements. Open shader settings and look for toggles related to cloud quality, shadow resolution, or volumetric effects.
Reduce Specific Effects Gradually
Start by lowering cloud detail or shadow distance rather than disabling features entirely. This preserves the shader's atmosphere while improving frame rate. You can also reduce the render distance for volumetric effects independently from your world render distance.
Balance Quality Across Dimensions
Consider that the Nether and End have simpler lighting needs than the Overworld. Some shader packs allow per-dimension quality settings—use lower shadow quality in the Nether if performance dips there.
Monitor Frame Rate
Use your FPS counter (F3 debug screen) to measure impact. Make one change at a time so you know which setting affects performance most. If you're still struggling, check that your GPU drivers are current.
