Adjust Shadow Quality and Softness

Access Shader Settings

Open the shader options menu by pressing the key bound to shader settings (usually accessed through the pause menu or a dedicated key). Look for the Shadows or Lighting section.

Configure Shadow Parameters

You'll find sliders controlling:

  • Shadow distance: How far shadows render from your character. Lower values improve performance on older hardware.
  • Shadow softness: Adjusts the blur and feathering of shadow edges. Higher values create gentler, more diffuse shadows that blend naturally with the terrain.
  • Shadow intensity: Controls how dark shadows appear. Reduce this if shadows feel too harsh or unrealistic for your preference.

Apply and Test

After adjusting, return to your world and observe how shadows fall across blocks and terrain. Test in different lighting conditions—near trees, under cliffs, and in open areas. If your frame rate drops, reduce shadow distance or softness. The shader is optimized for older PCs, so even maximum shadow settings should maintain playable performance on modest hardware.
