Make the Shader Less Intense at Night or in Dark Areas

Adjusting Vignette and Darkness

The cinematic vignette darkens screen borders to enhance horror atmosphere, but this can make nighttime or cave exploration extremely dark. Access your shader settings and locate the Vignette slider. Reducing this value will brighten the edges of your screen, making it easier to see your surroundings without losing the atmospheric effect entirely.

Tuning Brightness and Contrast

Look for Brightness or Exposure settings in the shader menu. Increasing these slightly will counteract the overall darkening effect that the VHS aesthetic applies. You can also adjust Contrast to make details pop more in low-light conditions.

Testing Your Changes

Visit a deep cave or explore at midnight to test your adjustments. The goal is finding a balance where the retro horror feel remains intact but you can still navigate and see mobs approaching. Small incremental changes work best—adjust one setting at a time and observe the difference before making further tweaks.
