Placing a Lock

Craft a lock at the tier you want: Wood Lock, Iron Lock, Steel Lock, Gold Plated Lock, or Diamond Plated Lock. Each tier requires its matching Lock Mechanism — Wood Lock Mechanism, Iron Lock Mechanism, or Steel Lock Mechanism — combined with other materials in a shaped recipe.

Place the lock on the block you want to protect. Chests and doors are the usual targets. Once placed, the block cannot be opened by players without the correct Key or a Lock Pick.

Opening Your Own Lock

Cut a Key from a Key Blank at the lock so you can reopen it. Carry the Key on a Key Ring to keep your inventory tidy. A Master Key also opens locks you have matched it to.

Picking Locks You Do Not Own

If you lose a Key, use a Lock Pick on the lock. Lock Picks come in Bobby Pin, Iron, Gold, Steel, and Diamond variants. Higher-tier Lock Picks work on higher-tier locks. A Bobby Pin Lock Pick handles only the simplest Wood Locks. Match the Lock Pick tier to the lock tier for reliable results.

Tier Progression

Start with Wood Lock and Wood Lock Mechanism for cheap protection. Move to Iron Lock and Iron Lock Mechanism, then Steel Lock and Steel Lock Mechanism as you gather better materials. Gold Plated Lock and Diamond Plated Lock sit at the top of the progression.
