Cooking Living Things Meat Without a Furnace
Campfire method
If you have no furnace and no smoker, a campfire still works. All five meats have a campfire_cooking recipe, so you can cook every one of them over an open fire.
1. Place a campfire on the ground.
2. Hold the raw meat and right-click the campfire.
3. Wait for the cooking cycle to finish.
4. Collect the finished item: Cooked Crab Meat, Cooked Elephant Meat, Cooked Giraffe Meat, Cooked Lion Meat, or Cooked Ostrich Meat depending on what you put on.
Campfires do not need fuel, which makes them the cheapest option early on. The trade-off is speed — a smoker finishes faster, and a furnace sits in the middle.
Choosing between the three methods
Every meat supports all three recipe types, so pick based on what you have built:
- Campfire — no fuel, slowest, good for one-off cooking while exploring.
- Furnace — needs fuel, moderate speed, the default once you have cobblestone.
- Smoker — needs fuel, fastest, best for bulk processing.
You can mix methods freely. Cook crab on a campfire while a smoker runs elephant meat, then move the rest to a furnace. The output item is identical regardless of method, so there is no quality difference to worry about — only time and fuel cost.
