How to Move Items and Fluids Between Containers with Hoppers

Choose the Right Hopper

Use a Rapid Hopper to move items quickly between containers, chests, and train cars or barges. Use a Fluid Hopper to move fluids between tanks, Fluid Tank Barge, and Fluid Tank Train Car blocks. Both hoppers sit against the block they pull from and push into the block on their output side.

Wire Up a Station

Place a Barge Dock or Train Car Docking Rail at the stop point. Put a Rapid Hopper beside the dock so it feeds the Chest Barge or Chest Train Car when the vehicle arrives. For liquids, put a Fluid Hopper against the Fluid Tank Barge or Fluid Tank Train Car and pipe into storage. A Vehicle Detector next to the track or water can signal when the vehicle is present so you can gate the hoppers.

Link and Power

If you use an Energy Tug or Energy Locomotive, place a Vehicle Charger at the dock or rail so it recharges while stopped. Craft Wireless Transmitter Component and Wireless Receiver Component to link distant parts of the system. Use the Conductor's Wrench to rotate hoppers, docks, and rail blocks so their faces point the right way.
