How to Keep Routes Loaded with a Chunk Loader Barge or Train Car

Why loading matters

Tugs and locomotives only move through loaded chunks. If the chunks along a Tug Guide Rail or Locomotive Route are unloaded, the vessel stops and any Auto-Fishing Barge or Fluid Hopper work halts. A Chunk Loader Barge or Chunk Loader Train Car keeps those chunks active.

Add the loader to the vessel

Chain a Chunk Loader Barge to your Tug with a Vehicle Chain, or a Chunk Loader Train Car to your Steam Locomotive or Energy Locomotive. The loader travels with the vessel, so the chunks around the moving train stay loaded as it moves along the route.

Route and dock

Lay Tug Guide Rail for boats or Locomotive Route for trains between your endpoints. Place a Tug Dock or Locomotive Docking Rail at each end. The vessel follows the route and the Chunk Loader keeps the path active the whole way.

Power and detection

An Energy Locomotive or Energy Tug needs charge; place a Vehicle Charger along the route or at a dock to top it up. A Vehicle Detector can signal arrivals so redstone at the dock activates Fluid Hoppers, Barge Docks, or Train Car Docking Rails. With the loader in the train, the route runs unattended.
