Optimize Framerates on Low-End Hardware
Reduce Shader Complexity
In shader options, disable or lower:
- Shadow map resolution (trades detail for speed)
- Light bounce/ambient occlusion quality
- Water and particle reflection effects
- Any volumetric or atmospheric effects
Lower Render Distance and Quality Tiers
If the shader offers quality presets (Low, Medium, High), select Low. Reduce your world render distance in Video Settings—this has the biggest impact on older machines. Even dropping from 16 to 12 chunks can free up significant framerate.
Monitor Performance
Enable the FPS counter (F3 debug screen) to track real-time performance. Test in demanding areas: dense forests, large builds, and water-heavy biomes. If framerates still dip below playable levels, consider disabling advanced lighting features entirely or switching to vanilla lighting temporarily.
Restart and Verify
Close and reopen the world after changes. Performance gains may not be instant; give the game time to stabilize.
