How to Make a Smithing Template for Kobold Iron Gear

The Only Shaped Recipe

The Smithing Template is the single item in the mod made with a crafting_shaped recipe. Everything else — the Kobold Iron Axe, Kobold Iron Hoe, Kobold Iron Pickaxe, Kobold Iron Shovel, Kobold Iron Spear, and Kobold Iron Sword — is made by using a Smithing Template in a smithing_transform.

That makes the Smithing Template your bottleneck. You cannot make any Kobold Iron gear without one.

Producing Templates in Bulk

1. Gather the materials required by the crafting_shaped recipe for the Smithing Template.

2. Craft the Smithing Template at a crafting table using the shaped layout.

3. Repeat to build a stockpile.

Each of the six smithing_transform recipes consumes one Smithing Template. If you want the full set — Axe, Hoe, Pickaxe, Shovel, Spear, and Sword — craft at least six Smithing Templates before you begin transforming.

Keep your templates in a dedicated chest near your smithing table so you do not lose track of how many transforms you can still run. Because the template is the only shaped craft in the mod, once you have the recipe memorized you can produce them on demand and convert them into whichever Kobold Iron tool or weapon you need next.
