How to Set Up Elevators for Vertical Travel

Placing Elevator Blocks

Elevators come in White, Orange, Magenta, Light Blue, Yellow, Lime, Pink, Gray, Light Gray, Cyan, Purple, Blue, Brown, Green, Red, and Black. Place them in a vertical column, one per block of height, so you can ride from the bottom to the top. All elevator blocks in a column should be the same color so they connect.

Riding the Column

1. Build a shaft at least two blocks tall and place an Elevator block at each level.

2. Stand on the lowest Elevator block.

3. Move up or down to travel along the column.

4. Use a different color for a separate shaft if you want two independent routes in the same base.

Practical Layouts

Put an Elevator column beside your mine entrance so you can drop to the bottom and rise back without ladders. In a multi-floor base, run one column per floor color so you always know which shaft goes where. Combine an Elevator column with a Drawbridge at the top if you want a retractable landing. Keep the shaft clear of other blocks — anything placed in the column blocks travel. For long drops, an Escape Rope gives you a second way back up if the column is interrupted.
