Create Realistic Shadows Around Your Base
Understanding Shadow Casting
Just Like Rays Mod creates shadows by tracing light paths from sources like torches and sunlight. Any solid block in the path blocks light rays, casting a dark shadow on the opposite side. This works with stairs, slabs, and corner blocks too—each casts a shadow shape matching its geometry.
Building for Shadow Effects
To maximize realistic shadows around your base:
1. Position light sources strategically. Place torches, lanterns, or glow blocks at different heights and angles around your structure. Light spreads outward in smooth circles, so elevation matters.
2. Use varied wall shapes. Solid walls cast sharp shadows, while stairs and half-blocks cast angled shadow patterns. Mix these for natural-looking shade.
3. Create depth with overhangs. Roof edges, awnings, and protruding blocks cast longer shadows as light rays bend around them.
4. Test your design. Build a small section first. Watch how torchlight behaves at night and how sunlight moves across your structure during the day.
5. Refresh if needed. If shadows don't update after building, go to World Settings > Optimize World > Erase Cached Data to recalculate light across your area.
