Choosing Between Crystal and Obsidian Shulker Boxes

The Two End Tiers

Both Crystal Shulker Box and Obsidian Shulker Box sit at the top of the upgrade ladder. You reach Crystal with a Diamond to Crystal Shulker Box Upgrade, and Obsidian with a Diamond to Obsidian Shulker Box Upgrade. Both start from a Diamond Shulker Box.

Pick Based on Materials

Crystal requires whatever crystal material your world provides. Obsidian requires obsidian, which you can farm with a diamond pickaxe and a water-and-lava setup. If you already have a steady obsidian source, Obsidian Shulker Box is the simpler end tier to mass-produce. If crystal is abundant for you, Crystal Shulker Box is the alternative.

Colors at the Top

Both end tiers come in all sixteen colors. Examples include Black Crystal Shulker Box, White Crystal Shulker Box, Red Obsidian Shulker Box, and Blue Obsidian Shulker Box. The full range runs from White through Black for each tier.

Do Not Waste the Diamond Step

Because both upgrades consume a Diamond Shulker Box, decide your final tier before crafting the Diamond box. If you are unsure, build a Diamond Shulker Box first, store your valuables in it, and only then commit the Diamond to Crystal or Diamond to Obsidian upgrade when your material stock is ready.
