How to Upgrade a Wood Chest to Copper, Iron, Gold, Diamond, Crystal, and Obsidian

Upgrade in Place

Upgrades are applied to a chest that is already placed in the world. Hold the correct upgrade item and use it on the chest you want to change. The chest keeps its stored contents and its position, so you do not need to empty it first.

Follow the chain in order. Each upgrade only accepts the chest tier directly below it:

• Wood to Copper Chest Upgrade turns a wood chest into a Copper Chest.
• Copper to Iron Chest Upgrade turns a Copper Chest into an Iron Chest.
• Iron to Gold Chest Upgrade turns an Iron Chest into a Gold Chest.
• Gold to Diamond Chest Upgrade turns a Gold Chest into a Diamond Chest.
• Diamond to Crystal Chest Upgrade turns a Diamond Chest into a Crystal Chest.
• Diamond to Obsidian Chest Upgrade turns a Diamond Chest into an Obsidian Chest.

Choosing the Final Tier

Crystal and Obsidian are both reached from Diamond, so pick one path at that point. Crystal Chest and Obsidian Chest are separate blocks, and there is no upgrade between them.

You can also skip straight ahead with Wood to Iron Chest Upgrade, which takes a wood chest directly to an Iron Chest without stopping at Copper.

Trapped versions exist for every tier: Trapped Copper Chest, Trapped Iron Chest, Trapped Gold Chest, Trapped Diamond Chest, Trapped Crystal Chest, and Trapped Obsidian Chest. Use the same upgrade items on a trapped chest to keep its trapped behavior while raising its tier.
