Understanding Coupling Incompatibility

Immersive Railroading includes trains from different regions with different coupling styles. European-style cars won't naturally couple with American-style locomotives and vice versa, limiting your flexibility when mixing train types.

Using the Coupling Adapter

The coupling adapter solves this problem by acting as a bridge between incompatible coupling systems. Attach the adapter to the rear coupling of one train type, then connect the other type to the adapter's opposite end.

Building Mixed Consists

With adapters in place, you can now create hybrid trains combining the best features of different regional designs. For example, pair a European passenger coach with an American freight locomotive, or mix specialty cars from different sources.

Keep spare adapters in your inventory when experimenting with new train combinations, as you may need multiple adapters for longer consists.
