Using Auto Pull and Speed Upgrades on Inventory Generators

What Each Upgrade Does

Two upgrades control how a generator operates. The Auto Pull Upgrade makes the generator draw items from an adjacent inventory automatically, so you do not have to move fuel by hand. The Speed Upgrade increases the rate at which the generator consumes fuel and produces energy.

Installing Upgrades

Place your generator, then open its interface. Locate the upgrade slots and insert the Auto Pull Upgrade or Speed Upgrade into them. A generator can hold more than one upgrade, so you can combine an Auto Pull Upgrade with a Speed Upgrade to both feed and accelerate the same block.

If a generator produces an unwanted side effect, insert a No Effect Upgrade into an upgrade slot to suppress it. This is a separate slot decision from speed and pulling, so plan your slots around what the generator actually needs to do.

Practical Setup

Build a chest or other storage next to the generator, fill it with the fuel the generator accepts, and install an Auto Pull Upgrade. The generator will then consume from that storage on its own. Add a Speed Upgrade when you need faster output, and add a No Effect Upgrade only when a specific side effect is causing problems. Keep spare upgrades on hand so you can swap them as your fuel supply changes.
