Mining Automation with Drills and the Deep Drill

Choose the Right Drill

Mining Drill is your first powered drill. Place it against the block face you want to mine and connect Energy Cable LV. It breaks blocks for you, so you can leave it running while you work elsewhere.

Upgrade to Steel Drill for tougher material, then Diamond Drill for the hardest blocks. Each tier needs more power, so run Energy Cable MV to the higher-tier drills.

The Deep Drill

Deep Drill is for large-scale extraction. Place it on the ground where you want to mine and connect power. It works the area beneath it, so position it over the deposit you want to exploit. Keep a Storage Rack (Chest) or Barrel next to the drill output so mined material has somewhere to go.

Powering Remote Dig Sites

A Portable Generator is the easiest way to power a drill far from base. Place the generator, fuel it, and run Energy Cable LV to the drill. For longer jobs, bring a Battery Bank charged at base and connect it to the drill instead.

Safety and Cleanup

Place a Defective Machinery Hazard sign near drills so you remember which ones need attention. Use a Trash Bin to dispose of unwanted stone and dirt on site rather than hauling it back. Rail Frame lets you lay track for moving material out of a deep mine.
