How to Craft and Age Cut Iron and Plate Iron

Starting from Cut Iron

Cut Iron is the base block for the iron building set. From Cut Iron you can cut Cut Iron Slab and Cut Iron Stairs on a stonecutter. Plate Iron is a separate starting block; from Plate Iron you get Plate Iron Slab and Plate Iron Stairs.

Weathering stages

Cut Iron ages through Exposed Cut Iron and then Rusted Cut Iron. Each stage has its own slab and stairs: Exposed Cut Iron Slab, Exposed Cut Iron Stairs, Rusted Cut Iron Slab, Rusted Cut Iron Stairs. Plate Iron ages into Exposed Plate Iron Slab, Exposed Plate Iron Stairs, Rusted Plate Iron Slab, and Rusted Plate Iron Stairs.

If you want to lock a stage in place, use the waxed versions. Waxed Cut Iron, Waxed Cut Iron Slab, and Waxed Cut Iron Stairs stop further weathering. Waxed Exposed Cut Iron, Waxed Exposed Cut Iron Slab, and Waxed Exposed Cut Iron Stairs do the same for the exposed stage.

Build tip: place unwaxed Cut Iron where you want it to keep changing over time, and wax the pieces you want frozen. Mixing waxed and unwaxed blocks of the same stage gives you a controlled patchwork of clean and rusted iron without waiting for the whole wall to catch up.
