Crafting Metal Fences and Rods from Each Metal

The Metal Pairs

The mod gives you a fence and a rod for each of nine metals: Constantan, Copper, Electrum, Gold, Iron, Lead, Nickel, Silver, and Uranium. Every one of these is made with a shaped crafting recipe. That means the ingredients must sit in a specific arrangement on the crafting grid — check your recipe book or a recipe viewer to see the exact pattern before you start placing items.

Fence vs Rod

A Fence is the full-height barrier block. A Rod is the thinner vertical piece. Both come from the same metal, so once you have the raw metal or ingot for a type, you can produce both the Constantan Fence and Constantan Rod, the Copper Fence and Copper Rod, and so on through Electrum, Gold, Iron, Lead, Nickel, Silver, and Uranium. Craft the fence when you want a solid run of railing; craft the rod when you want a slim upright that a fence or post can attach to.

Planning a Build

Decide your metal first. If you are fencing a pen, pick one metal and craft its Fence and Rod together so the styles match. If you are decorating, mix them: a Gold Fence next to a Silver Rod gives a two-tone look. Keep a stack of rods on hand — they are the connective pieces between posts and fences, so running out mid-build forces a trip back to the crafting table.
