Building a Fenced Enclosure with Posts and Fences

Choose Your Metal

Pick one of the nine metals — Constantan, Copper, Electrum, Gold, Iron, Lead, Nickel, Silver, or Uranium — and craft its Fence and Rod. Both use shaped recipes, so follow the grid pattern from your recipe book. Craft more fence than you think you need; a full perimeter eats blocks quickly.

Lay Out the Corners

Start at each corner of your enclosure and place an Extendable Post. The Extendable Post is the anchor of the build and is not metal-specific, so it works with any fence type. From each corner post, run your chosen metal Fence along the straight edges. Where two fence runs meet away from a corner, drop another Extendable Post to break the line and keep the structure rigid.

Add Rods and Gateways

Use the Rod of your chosen metal wherever you want a thinner upright — between two fence sections, at the sides of an entrance, or as a decorative accent along the run. Rods and Fences of the same metal share a look, so alternating them creates a repeating pattern without introducing a second material.

Close the Loop

Walk the perimeter once you finish. Check that every corner has a post, every straight run is filled with fence, and any gap you left for an entrance is flanked by rods or posts. If a section looks bare, add a Rod rather than another Fence to keep the silhouette varied.
