How to Make Asphalt Concrete Roads and Slabs

From Crude to Bitumen

Asphalt Concrete starts with Bitumen, a heavy residue from refining crude oil. Run crude through a Distillation Tower to produce Bitumen. For the heaviest leftover material, a Coker processes residue into Petcoke and Petcoke Dust, which are separate products from Bitumen.

Building the Road

With Bitumen in hand, craft Asphalt Concrete. From Asphalt Concrete you can also craft:

• Asphalt Concrete Slab
• Asphalt Concrete Stairs

These three blocks form a matching set for roads, paths, and decorative builds. Use the full block for road surfaces, slabs for kerbs and half-height edges, and stairs for ramps and transitions.

Scaling Up

Bitumen is a byproduct of refining, so the more crude you process for fuels, the more Bitumen you accumulate. Route Bitumen into a dedicated storage chest near your crafting area so road-building materials are always on hand. Because Asphalt Concrete, its slab, and its stairs all derive from the same base block, craft a large batch of Asphalt Concrete first, then split it into slabs and stairs as needed for the build.
