How to Find Crude Oil with the Seismic Survey Tool

Craft a Seismic Survey Tool and use it on the ground to scan for underground oil deposits. When you use it, it produces a Survey Result item. Read the Survey Result to learn whether crude oil is present nearby and roughly where it sits. If the result is empty, move to a different area and scan again — deposits are not everywhere.

Once a Survey Result points you toward oil, mark the spot and prepare to drill. You will need a Derrick and a Pumpjack to extract what the survey found.

From Survey to Extraction

Place a Derrick at the indicated location to reach the deposit. The Derrick is the structure that taps the reservoir. Pair it with a Pumpjack, which does the actual pumping once the deposit is accessed. Extracted crude oil is collected as Bucket of Crude Oil.

Store or transport crude oil using an Oil Tank, which holds larger volumes than buckets. From there, crude oil feeds into refining. Do not skip the survey step — placing a Derrick without a confirmed deposit wastes materials. Survey first, then build the Derrick and Pumpjack on the confirmed spot, and route the output into an Oil Tank before refining.
