Setting Up a Multi-Stage Ore Refining Line
Plan Your Processing Chain
Advanced ore refining involves multiple machines working in sequence. Crushed ore flows through the Gravity Separator to remove impurities, then into the Chemical Reactor for purification, and finally into the Crystallizer to grow pure metal crystals.
Build and Connect Machines
Construct each multiblock according to your Engineer's Manual. Position them so output from one feeds into the next—use hoppers, conveyors, or fluid pipes to automate material flow. The Gravity Separator requires water and produces clean ore plus valuable byproducts. The Chemical Reactor needs specific chemical inputs (often produced from gases captured by the Reverberation Furnace).
Manage Heat and Power
Many machines generate or require heat. Use a Geothermal Exchanger near lava sources to produce steam, then feed that steam into machines that need thermal energy. Excess steam powers your Steam Turbine for electrical generation.
Monitor Production
Watch for bottlenecks where one machine backs up waiting for another. Adjust input rates or add buffer storage. The full refining chain yields more pure metal and valuable byproducts than simple smelting, justifying the complexity.
