Gathering Materials for the Iron and Diamond Hooks

Iron First

The Iron Hook is your first metal tier and the gateway to everything above it. Smelt raw iron in a furnace to get ingots, then bring them to a crafting table along with sticks for the shaped recipe. Iron is common at mid depths, so a single mining trip usually yields enough for the hook plus spares.

Diamonds for the Diamond Hook

The Diamond Hook needs diamonds, which only appear deep. Do not attempt it with a Wooden Hook — craft the Iron Hook first and use it while you dig down. Bring:

• A stack of torches
• Food
• Your Iron Hook
• A bucket of water for lava pockets

Once you have diamonds, return to the surface and combine them with sticks at the crafting table in the same hook shape used for the lower tiers.

Stockpile Before You Craft

Both recipes are crafting_shaped, so a single missing ingredient blocks the whole craft. Mine extra iron and diamonds in one trip rather than making repeated journeys. Keep the surplus in a labelled chest near your crafting table so the next upgrade — Redstone or Ender — is a short walk away instead of another expedition.
