Why the Wooden Hook Comes First

The Wooden Hook is the only hook you can make without mining. Its crafting_shaped recipe uses planks and sticks — both available from the first tree you punch. Make it before you go underground, because it is the tool that carries you into every other recipe in the mod.

Recipe Steps

1. Chop a tree and turn the logs into planks in your inventory grid.

2. Turn two planks into sticks.

3. Open a crafting table and lay the planks and sticks out in the hook shape — the curved head from planks, the shaft from sticks.

4. Take the finished Wooden Hook out of the result slot.

What to Do With It

Use the Wooden Hook immediately to gather more wood and to reach the iron you need for the Iron Hook. Do not skip straight to iron — the Wooden Hook costs almost nothing and gives you a working hook while you stockpile ingots. Craft a second Wooden Hook as a spare if you plan long trips, since losing your only hook far from base means walking back empty-handed. Once iron is smelted, retire the wooden one to a chest and move up the tier list.
