Troubleshoot Bloom Effects That Look Wrong
Identify Bloom Issues
Bloom should create a soft glow around bright objects like torches, lava, and glowstone. If bloom looks too intense, too faint, or doesn't appear at all, your settings need adjustment.
Check Bloom Intensity Settings
Open shader options and locate bloom or glow controls:
- If bloom overwhelms bright areas, reduce the bloom intensity slider
- If bloom is barely visible, increase intensity or check that bloom is enabled
- Some settings separate bloom radius (how far the glow spreads) from intensity (how bright it is)—adjust both if available
Verify Graphics Quality Tier
Lower quality presets reduce bloom detail. If you've selected Low graphics:
- Switch to Medium or High to see fuller bloom effects
- If performance allows, test High mode to confirm bloom works as intended
Check for Conflicting Settings
Some shader options interact:
- Bloom may be disabled if you've toggled "disable fancy graphics"
- Shadow settings can affect how bloom renders around lit objects
- Ensure bloom is explicitly enabled in your configuration
Restart and Observe
After changing bloom settings, fully restart your world. Stand near bright light sources like torches or lava and observe the glow. Adjust incrementally until the effect matches your preference—bloom should enhance without dominating the scene.
