Optimize Water Reflections for Lakes and Rivers
Understand Reflection Behavior
Haze Shaders renders realistic reflections on water surfaces, mirroring the sky, terrain, and nearby objects. Reflection quality depends on your shader settings and device capabilities. Larger water bodies show more noticeable reflections than small puddles.
Position Water for Best Visual Impact
To showcase reflections:
- Create wide, open water surfaces rather than narrow channels
- Place water at elevation changes where it reflects sky and distant terrain
- Build near water during daytime to see sky reflections clearly
- Use still water (no flowing currents) for the clearest mirror effect
Adjust Reflection Settings
In your shader options:
- Increase reflection quality if your device supports it—this sharpens what appears on the water surface
- Reduce reflection distance if performance drops near large lakes
- Toggle reflection effects on and off to compare visual impact
Combine with Lighting for Atmosphere
Place colored light sources near water edges. The shader will reflect these lights on the water surface, creating glowing, atmospheric effects especially visible at dusk and night.
Test Different Water Biomes
Water appearance varies by biome. Visit oceans, rivers, and custom water features to see how reflections adapt to different environments and lighting conditions.
