How to Light a Torch with the Fire Starter

Lighting an Unlit Torch

Hold a Fire Starter and use it on an Unlit Torch placed in the world. The block converts to a Lit Torch. The same action works on an Unlit Soul Torch to produce a Lit Soul Torch, and on an Unlit Campfire to light it.

The Fire Starter is your ignition tool for every unlit light source. Keep one on you at all times, because torches you place will not light themselves.

Refilling After the Light Dies

Lit torches burn down over time. When a Lit Torch or Lit Soul Torch goes out, it reverts to its unlit form. Use the Fire Starter on it again to relight it, or break it and carry the Unlit Torch to a safe spot.

If you have a Torch Bandolier, store unlit torches inside it so you always have spares ready when a light dies mid-exploration. Relight from the bandolier's stock rather than crafting fresh ones each time.

Soul Torch Note

Lit Soul Torch and Unlit Soul Torch follow the same relight cycle as regular torches. The Fire Starter handles both. Carry one Fire Starter and a stack of unlit torches and you can keep any cave lit indefinitely.
