Getting Started with Gritty Artifact Lighting

Installation and Basic Use

Gritty Artifact Lighting is a shader pack that processes your game in real time to simulate low-quality JPEG compression. Once installed, the shader automatically applies to every frame you render, adding visual artifacts and distortion across your entire world.

The effect works on all visual elements—blocks, mobs, sky, and lighting. Bright areas and dark shadows receive extra crunchy compression artifacts, creating a distinctly retro, degraded digital aesthetic. The shader runs continuously without requiring special activation; simply enable it in your shader settings and play normally.

Expect a noticeable visual shift toward blocky, pixelated distortions and gritty noise throughout your game. This is intentional and core to the mod's purpose of recreating that low-fidelity internet aesthetic.
