How to Get a Grappling Hook and Use It

Crafting the Base Hook

Start by crafting the Grappling Hook. It is a shapeless recipe, so the items can sit anywhere in the grid. Once crafted, place it in your hotbar and select it.

Firing and Retracting

Aim at a solid block and use the hook. The line fires out, attaches, and pulls you toward the anchor point. Release the use control to detach. While attached you keep momentum, so you can chain a swing into a jump to cross gaps.

If the hook does not reach, you are out of range — move closer or upgrade the hook. The Rope Grappling Hook Upgrade extends how far the line travels, and the Hook Thrower Grappling Hook Upgrade changes how the hook is launched. Apply upgrades to the Grappling Hook to change its behaviour.

For a second line, craft the Double Grappling Hook Upgrade and apply it, letting you anchor two points. The Swing Grappling Hook Upgrade makes swinging smoother when you want to arc rather than be pulled straight in.

Recovering a Stuck Hook

If the hook lands somewhere you cannot reach, release and fire again. The Hook Magnet Grappling Hook Upgrade helps the hook grab onto surfaces more reliably, which reduces missed shots on small or angled blocks.
