Telling Shaped and Shapeless Hat Recipes Apart

Why the Distinction Matters

The mod registers seven hats across two recipe types. Four use crafting_shaped, three use crafting_shapeless. Knowing which is which saves you from rearranging items that never needed rearranging — or from leaving a shaped recipe half-finished because one ingredient sat in the wrong slot.

Shaped Hats

The Armorer Hat, Butcher Hat, Farmer Hat, and Fisherman Hat are shaped recipes. For these, the position of each ingredient in the crafting grid is part of the recipe. If the craft refuses to appear, move items one slot at a time until the output shows.

Shapeless Hats

The Fletcher Hat, Librarian Hat, and Shepherd Hat are shapeless recipes. For these, only the set of items matters, not where they sit. Drop them anywhere in the grid and the hat appears. If a shapeless craft fails, the cause is almost always a wrong item or a wrong count, not placement.

A quick rule: if rearranging the grid changes nothing, it is shapeless. If rearranging changes the result, it is shaped. Use that to sort any hat you are unsure about before you start pulling materials from your chests.
