How to Prospect for Ore Clusters with the Prospector's Pick

Reading the Prospector's Pick

Hold the Prospector's Pick and right-click a block to scan the area. The pick reports what ore blocks are nearby, so you can decide where to dig before committing to a shaft. Use it on surface stone, cave walls, and exposed Deepslate to compare readings across a chunk.

Turning Samples into Clusters

When you find an ore block, mine it to collect the block itself. Ore blocks such as Hematite, Limonite, Malachite, Azurite, Cassiterite, Galena, Sphalerite, Teallite, Bauxite, Beryl, Cinnabar, Autunite, Kimberlite, Platinum, Gold, Coal, Lignite, Bituminous Coal, Anthracitic Coal, Assorted Quartz, Lapis Lazuli, and Ancient Debris drop their block form. Break the ore block again in your inventory or at a crafting station to obtain the matching Cluster, such as an Iron Cluster from Hematite, a Copper Cluster from Malachite, a Tin Cluster from Cassiterite, a Silver Cluster from Galena, a Lead Cluster from Teallite, a Nickel Cluster from Sphalerite, an Aluminum Cluster from Bauxite, an Osmium Cluster from Kimberlite, or a Platinum Cluster from Platinum.

Sample blocks — Hematite Sample, Limonite Sample, Malachite Sample, Azurite Sample, Cassiterite Sample, Galena Sample, Sphalerite Sample, Teallite Sample, Bauxite Sample, Beryl Sample, Cinnabar Sample, Autunite Sample, Kimberlite Sample, Platinum Sample, Gold Sample, Poor Gold Sample, Coal Sample, Lignite Sample, Bituminous Coal Sample, Anthracitic Coal Sample, Assorted Quartz Sample, Lapis Lazuli Sample, and Ancient Debris Sample — mark deposits. Note their positions, then dig toward the full ore blocks they indicate.
