Genetic chickens lay eggs in several colors: White Egg, Brown Egg, Blue Egg, Green Egg, Grey Egg, Olive Green Egg, Dark Brown Egg, and Tinted Egg. Pick up any egg and place it inside a Chicken Nest to begin incubation. A Chicken Nest is a block you craft and set down; eggs placed in it will progress toward hatching on their own. Keep the nest accessible so you can check on it.

Raising Chicks and Managing Output

Once an egg hatches, a chick grows into a Genetic Chicken. Feed and breed your chickens to steer their genetics toward the traits you want. Excess eggs can be stored in an Egg Carton, which holds multiple eggs in one block for tidy collection. When you need food, cook Raw Chicken in a furnace, smoker, or campfire to get Cooked Chicken. If you want to expand your flock quickly, use a Genetic Chicken Spawn Egg to place a new chicken directly. Breed pairs repeatedly and watch the egg colors and offspring traits to select the birds you keep. Cull or relocate chickens whose traits you do not want so your breeding stock stays focused. Check nests regularly, because a full nest stops accepting new eggs until you clear it.
