How to Craft and Use Posts for Animal Pens

Posts come in six wood types: Oak Post, Spruce Post, Birch Post, Jungle Post, Acacia Post, and Dark Oak Post. Each is made with a shaped recipe from its matching wood. Craft several at once before you start building, since a pen corner needs one post per corner.

Building a Pen

Place a Post at each corner of the area you want to enclose. Posts act as anchor points, so run your fencing or barriers between them. Because each Post matches its wood type, pick the variant that matches the fence you already have so the pen looks consistent.

Plan the footprint first: a square or rectangle with a Post at every corner is the simplest layout. For larger pens, add Posts along long sides as intermediate anchors so the span between corners does not sag or leave gaps.

Once the perimeter is closed, lead your animals inside and shut the gate. Posts stay in place as permanent fixtures, so build the pen where you want it long-term rather than moving it later.

If you are short on a specific wood type, remember all six Post variants exist — you are not locked to Oak Post just because your base is in an oak forest. Gather the logs you have and craft the matching Post.
