Stop Animation Lag When Many Custom Mobs Are Nearby

Understanding Distance-Based Animation Throttling

The mod automatically slows down animation update rates for GeckoLib entities that are far from your character. This keeps frame rates stable in mob-heavy areas without removing mobs from view.

Adjusting Animation Distance Thresholds

1. Open config/geckolib_animation_optimizer-client.toml

2. Locate the animation distance settings—these define how far away a mob must be before its animations slow down

3. Lower values make the throttling kick in closer to you; higher values throttle mobs only at greater distances

4. Save the file and reload your world to apply changes

Fine-Tuning for Your Hardware

If you still experience lag with many mobs:

  • Reduce the distance threshold so animations slow down sooner
  • Check the in-game config menu (accessible from settings) for quick adjustments without reloading
  • Combine this with occlusion culling to hide mobs behind walls for additional performance gains

Mobs you're directly looking at will never have slowed animations, ensuring combat and close encounters remain smooth.
