Enable Wall Occlusion to Hide Mobs Behind Blocks

What Occlusion Culling Does

Occlusion culling prevents rendering of GeckoLib entities that are completely hidden behind solid blocks (walls, terrain, structures). This removes unnecessary animation processing and boosts performance in enclosed areas.

Turning On Occlusion Culling

1. Open config/geckolib_animation_optimizer-client.toml

2. Find the occlusion culling toggle or wall occlusion setting

3. Set it to true to enable

4. Save and reload your world

How It Works in Practice

When you're inside a building and mobs are outside behind thick walls, they won't render or animate. Once you move where line-of-sight is established, they render normally. This is especially effective in:

  • Underground caves with multiple chambers
  • Dungeons with thick walls
  • Areas with dense terrain

Performance vs. Visibility Trade-off

Occlusion culling is aggressive—mobs hidden behind even thin walls may not render. If you prefer to see mobs through semi-transparent blocks, disable this feature and rely on distance-based throttling instead.
