How to Culture a Dinosaur Embryo in the Culture Vat

Prepare the Vat

Place a Culture Vat and fill it with Bio Goo. Bio Goo is the growth medium; without it the vat will not run. Keep a supply on hand because each culture consumes goo as it processes.

Load and Run

Put a fossil-derived embryo or egg-type culture item into the Culture Vat. The vat uses the fossil:culture_vat recipe type, which covers 119 recipes, so most culturable outputs are handled here rather than at a crafting table. Wait for the process to finish, then pull the result out of the vat.

Cultured results include living dinosaur eggs and small creatures. Once you have an egg, place it on suitable ground and let it hatch. Hatchlings need feeding — use a Feeder stocked with the right food so you do not have to hand-feed constantly. A Feeder holds food and dispenses it to nearby animals automatically.

If you want cooked meat from your animals later, note that the smelting, smoking, and campfire_cooking recipe types all cover the Cooked variants listed in the mod, such as Cooked Dodo, Cooked Allosaurus, and Cooked Mammoth. Build the Culture Vat early: it is the bottleneck between finding fossils and having live animals.
