Feeding, Tethering, and Enclosing Your Animals

Feed Automatically

Craft a Feeder and place it near your pens. Stock it with the food your animals eat and it will dispense to them, so you are not running back and forth with a stack of items. This matters most for hatchlings, which need frequent feeding to survive to adulthood.

Tether and Enclose

Tethered logs keep animals in place. Acacia Tethered Log and Birch Tethered Log are the two variants — place the one matching your build. Scratching posts give birds somewhere to use: Acacia Scratching Post and Birch Scratching Post.

For containment, build fences from Calamites Fence or Cordaites Fence, with matching Calamites Fence Gate or Cordaites Fence Gate for entry. Large Chain Fence suits larger enclosures. Use Calamites Door or Cordaites Door on any indoor shelter.

Handle the Extras

Some animals produce materials you will want. Chicken Essence and Cooked Egg come from bird keeping. Cooked Chicken Soup is a food item worth making once you have poultry. Artificial Honeycomb is craftable if you need it without bees. Bio Goo is consumed by the Culture Vat, so keep production running.

Black Toy Ball, Blue Toy Ball, and Brown Toy Ball are enrichment items for your animals. Place a Feeder, a tethered log, and a toy ball in each pen and your animals stay fed, in place, and occupied.
